Maldonado on the top step

Chandhok got the best start by overtaking Pastor Maldonado, pole sitter and author of an average start. Winner Friday, Romain Grosjean starts from eighth place but quickly climbs a place by catching up with his teammate Vitaly Petrov. Author of the best lap in the race, Chandhok escapes in the lead, taking Maldonado in his wake. Behind, d?Ambrosio is slower and leads a very grouped peloton. The desire to overtake is quickly thwarted by the Monegasque route, which suits the two leading men. Behind Zuber, Grosjean is getting impatient but can only keep up with the pace of the cars in front of him. Far from the lead, Alvaro Parente had to give up 12 laps from the finish, while Giacomo Ricci retired due to mechanical problems.

While everything is going well for the two escapees, Karun Chandhok has to stop, betrayed by his car. This abandonment suits Maldonado, now alone in the lead, twenty seconds ahead of a group made up of d?Ambrosio, Hulkenberg, Di Grassi, Zuber, Grosjean and Petrov. But the entry of the safety car changes the situation by closing the ranks for the last laps of the race. Wishing to overtake Zuber, Grosjean made a mistake, collided with the Austrian and ended up in the wall. a disillusionment for the French driver, who had always finished in the points until then and who had had a perfect start to the weekend.

The safety car comes in again but this time the track is littered with too much debris. All the cars stop on the starting line, the drivers descend in a race which has not completed its 30 laps before the red flag is waved. Pastor Maldonado can raise his arms to the sky, the ART driver wins and sees his teammate Niko Hülkenberg get on the podium (3rd). Jérôme d?Ambrosio, after two 3rd places in Spain, climbs a step and completes a podium colonized by the French teams.
