Marcus Armstrong at ART Grand Prix

FIA European Vice-Champion F3, Marcus Armstrong moves to the next level. Member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the 19-year-old New Zealander will be active next year in Formula 2. And not just anywhere since he will wear the colors of the French ART Grand Prix team, titled this year with Nyck de Vries.

« I am sincerely very happy that Marcus is joining our team because I already wanted him to be one of our drivers in Formula 3, underlines the director of ART Grand Prix Sébastien Philippe. Marcus' profile suits the company's philosophy perfectly and we are happy to have him with us in Formula 2 because I think that with his approach to racing and his ability to adapt, he will be able to fight for the first places. Marcus is only in his third year of car and he has already accomplished great things compared to drivers of his generation who have much more experience. Winter preparation will be crucial, but I am confident I can do great things with him. »

Parmi ses autres faits d’arme, Armstrong compte un titre de champion d’Italie F4 glané en 2017 et un titre honorifique de vice-champion d’Allemagne F4 la même année. Et ce sans compter une deuxième place en Toyota Racing Series 2019.

« Joining ART Grand Prix is an honor for several reasons, said the person concerned. First of all, for its history: it has been one of the major forces in GP2 and F2 for fifteen years and many drivers of F1 passed through this stable. Secondly, I met the team in Paris and my first impression is that everyone is very professional and strives to be more efficient in every detail… honestly, that puts a bit of pressure on me! But I am confident that I can succeed with the team because I will learn all the key points alongside them. Additionally, one of my strengths has always been my ability to adapt to new situations. I'll be learning about pit stops and race strategies, but I'm determined to do a good job from the start. We will drive in Abu Dhabi during the three days of testing and, after virtual preparation with a simulator and computer, I will be looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix. I would like to thank the team as well as the Ferrari Driver Academy and all the Ferrari management for giving me the best opportunity to start in Formula 2. »

It remains to be seen who his teammate will be within the French team…
