Nikita mazepin (Hitech) set the best time in the free practice session of the weekend of Formula 2, this Friday morning, on the Sakhir track. The Russian, who is chasing his superlicense, is ahead of the two drivers Carlin Jehan Daruvala (+0 »122) and Yuki tsunoda (+0 »258), also in search of the precious sesame opening the doors of F1.
The two French teams were well positioned with 4th place for Dan Ticktum (DAMS) and 5th for Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix). On the Prema side, Robert Shwartzman was the one who performed the best in 7th position, in a session whose first 25 minutes were disrupted by the two red flags caused by the spins of Artem Markelov (HWA) and Marino Sato (Trident).
For his part, the championship leader Mick Schumacher (Prema) could not do better than the 10th time of the session, but it is still better than his main rival, the Briton Callum Ilott (UNI-Virtuosi), 14th.
For his big debut in Formula 2 with HWA Racelab, Theo Pourchaire discovered his brand new car and set the 17th fastest time, 1”7 behind Mazepin. The Grassois will discover the category at 17 with the aim of preparing for the next season. He will take part in his first qualifying session at 14:15 p.m. this Friday.
