Nobuharu Matsushita and Carlin on pole in Baku

Nobuharu Matsushita (Pug) took pole position at the end of the FIA qualifying session F2 in Baku, largely dominating the competition. The session was postponed several minutes later the incident with a manhole, which occurred in FP1 in F1.

The first burst of timed laps saw Luca Ghiotto (Uni-Virtuosi), already the fastest in practice this morning, shoot first in 1'55"468, ahead by 22 thousandths Nyck de Vries (ART Grand Prix).

But we will have to wait for the second attempts to see the final hierarchy, with an exchange of first place between de Vries then Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin), the Japanese finally having the last word in 1'54″555, with the best sectors 1 and 2.

The Japanese driver hit hard on his last lap as de Vries failed at 444 thousandths while Ghiotto took 3rd place at 0″482. But behind this trio, the gaps are even greater, with Sergio Sette Camara (DAMS) in fourth place at 1″122. Jordan King (MP Motorsport) completes the top 5.

Mick Schumacher (Prema Racing) will start from sixth position alongside King. In the tricolor clan, Anthoine Hubert (Arden) ranks 9th, having suffered a final scare when a curb passed in his final attempt.

Giuliano Alesi (Trident) finished 14th, when Dorian Boccolacci (Campos Racing) finished this qualification with the 16th fastest time, two places ahead of Tatiana Calderon (Arden).

Sean Gelael (Prema Racing) caused a neutralization of the session via a red flag 5′ into the session after stopping on track. A small fire started on one of his brakes but was quickly brought under control, but the Indonesian was subsequently unable to defend his chances. He was in fact scolded by the marshals after having pushed two track marshals when they were trying to restart the race. car :
