OFFICIAL: Jüri Vips replaces injured Sean Gelael at DAMS

As announced earlier this Friday by AUTOhebdo, Jüri Vips will replace Sean Gelael, victim of a fractured vertebra in Barcelona (Spain) last Sunday, at DAMS in Formula 2

The Estonian pilot, member of the sector Red Bull, will finally defend the French colors over 3 weekends of competition since he will ride in blue at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), at Monza (Italy, Lombardy), then at Mugello (Italy, Tuscany).

Deprived of the first round of Super Formula due to administrative restrictions on entry into Japanese territory for foreign workers, Vips will play alongside Daniel Ticktum, a former member of Red Bull, within the Le Mans team.

At 20 years old, Vips already has a nice track record to his credit. 2017 champion in ADAC Formula 4, he then fought alongside Ticktum for the 2018 title in the European championship of Formula 3 FIA. Last year, he had a great campaign in FIA Formula 3, winning three races. He also finished on the podium at the Macau Grand Prix.

In search of the 40 points synonymous with Super License F1, Vips was initially scheduled to ride in Japan as Pierre Gasly and Ticktum before him. This season he also took part in the first two meetings of the Formula Regional European championship in Misano (Italy) and at Paul Ricard.

« The Spa meeting will be more of a test session than a race meeting because Jüri has never driven in F2, specified Gregory and Olivier Driot, co-owners of DAMS. The technical team and Dan will do everything to help him and we hope to start the second half of the season well. ».
