The tandem of the No. 11 Honda from Chip Ganassi Racing is complete. While New Zealander Marcus Armstrong had been confirmed for all urban and road rounds, Japanese Takuma Sato was chosen to replace him on the ovals throughout the 2023 season.

With 7 seasons in Formula 1 (from 2002 to 2008), 13 in IndyCar (since 2010) crowned by 6 victories, 14 podiums and 10 pole positions, the Nippon was the man for the job for the American team, 14 times world champion in IndyCar: “ It’s an incredible opportunity to have Takuma Sato in our No. 11 car on the ovals in 2023, says Mike Hull, general manager of Chip Ganassi Racing. He's a two-time winner from Indianapolis who has the experience to know how to win and complements the strengths of his three other teammates. There are four of them but they are one. »

« I want to thank Chip and Mike for making this possible. I am extremely looking forward to joining Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023, said the Japanese pilot. The team has been at the highest level of the sport for decades and is, needless to say, very competitive. Focusing on ovals only is new to me but I'm looking forward to racing with my teammates who have won championships and the Indianapolis 500 in the past. I just want to start. »
