Theo Pourchaire is definitely not like the others. Rookie and only 17 years old, the Habs won the first pole position of his career in Formula 2, this Thursday, on the occasion of the second meeting of the season in Monaco.
While discovering the narrow streets and rails of Monte-Carlo, the ART Grand Prix driver outperformed his qualifying group with a fantastic time of 1'20"985, relegating the competition fromOscar piastri (Prema) and Jüri Vips (Hitech) by half a second!
His happiness was total when he discovered fifteen minutes later that Robert Shwartzman (Prema), the fastest driver in the second qualifying group on a track that was supposed to be improving, was not able to beat his mark (1'21 »403). The Russian in fact dominated Group 2 ahead of Dan Ticktum (Carlin) and Ralph Boschung (Campos).
Just a few months after finishing runner-up in F3 from his first year, the native of Grasse hit very hard. He will now have to build on his performance by achieving his first success of the season, Saturday in the main race (17:15 p.m.).
He will have to resist his main pursuers, who will be in order: Robert Shwartzman (Prema), Oscar Piastri (Prema) and Dan Ticktum (Carlin). But before that, we will have to manage the difficulty of Race 1 contested on a reverse grid, Friday morning (11:45 a.m.). Tenth in qualifying, Guanyu-Zhou will start on pole for Race 1.
