Théo Pourchaire: “I really wanted to stay at ART”

Vice-champion of F3 with ART Grand-Prix in 2020, the French Theo Pourchaire remains within the French team in 2021, but this time in F2. He explains his choice to us.

Théo, we imagine you happy at the idea of continuing the adventure in F2 with ART Grand Prix?

Yes it's clear ! And, I'm super happy to be able to announce it. I really wanted to stay at ART and they also wanted to keep me, so it worked out pretty well. There are a lot of very good teams in Formula 2, but for me they are one of the best. Then, I don't forget that they trusted me in F3, even though I came from German F4. At the time, few big teams would have taken this risk. Now, place for F2, the last step before the F1.

Do you think acclimatization as fast as in F3 is possible?

You are starting to know me well: I always leave with the desire to win. Afterwards, I don't forget that Formula 2 is the toughest championship after Formula 1. It's going to be very tough, because there are very good drivers and big teams. I don't really have any ranking goals, but a Top 5 would already be very good, and finishing in the top three would really be the best for hoping to move up to F1. In short, I will give the best of myself!

Can the change in format with the two reversed grids and three races per weekend benefit you?

Of course, I like peloton races, overtaking and the confrontation on the track. It will be a bit of a weird format. In the event of pole on Friday, I would start 10th in race 1. We will need at least two meetings to adapt to it. These will be difficult weekends physically and mentally. But the challenge looks great.
