Turvey, first success in GP2

Qualified in pole position, Charles Pic warned that he expected a difficult start. When this was given, the Frenchman was surprised by Oliver Turvey (iSport), qualified in second position. The Briton, former Formula resident Renault 3.5 Series, takes the lead of the race and never lets it go.

Behind, Charles Pic tries to resist Davide Valsecchi (iSport) but must finally give in to the Italian?s insistence. While, far from there, Edoardo Piscopo stops and gives up, Charles Pic gets his second wind and becomes the fastest on the track again. He is followed by Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix), fourth, while his teammate, Sam Bird, makes a mistake and retires.

Meanwhile, starting at the back of the grid, Luca Filippi (Meritus) grabs the places one after the other, in order to move up into the first half of the table. After the first round of pit stops, Charles Pic dropped to fifth place. Meanwhile, iSport International drivers Oliver Turvey and Davide Valsecchi continue to dominate the race.

Not far from there, Jules Bianchi, stuck between the two Arden drivers, Javier Villa and Charles Pic, got rid of the Spaniard and climbed to third place. Meanwhile, Luca Filippi continues his fantastic ride, overtaking Javier Villa, moving up to fourth place. Near there, Charles Pic left the track and found it in twelfth position.

Ten laps from the finish, Alberto Valerio went sideways and caused the safety car to come out. Oliver Turvey, who had opened a gap of more than seven seconds at the head of the race, saw his efforts reduced to nothing. In the final laps, Davide Valsecchi tried to take him back, while Jules Bianchi protected his third position.

Giedo Van der Garde (Barwa Addax), fighting with Alexander Red (Meritus), also made a mistake and retired shortly after the restart. Luca Filippi, a few seconds from the finish, gave up in turn and let slip a fourth place which could have rewarded him with a fantastic comeback.

Oliver Turvey, after leading from the start, won after 33 laps ahead of Davide Valsecchi and Jules Bianchi. The Frenchman, now linked to Ferrari, made a more than convincing debut for his first GP2 race. Second race of the weekend, this Saturday from 15 p.m., for 22 laps.
