Van der Garde wins in Hungary

In ideal conditions for racing, the drivers set off at 10:30 a.m. for the second Hungaroring race in the GP2 Series. Giedo Van der Garde, second on the grid, got the best start and took the lead to the detriment of Davide Rigon. Third, Pastor Maldonado tries to overtake the Italian but catches him in turn 9. Rigon gives up and leaves his rivals to claim the podium. But not Maldonado, penalized with a pit stop, being designated responsible for the collision. A few laps later, the Venezuelan gave up. The case is interesting for Romain Grosjean, started tenth and can claim to return to the points (first six places).

At the head of the race, Luca Filippi threatens Giedo Van der Garde but the Dutchman, Formula champion Renault 3.5 in 2008, holding up well. Javier Villa completes the podium, while Romain Grosjean is battling with Lucas di Grassi for 4th place. After Teixeira's accident, the safety car enters the track and tightens the positions. The restart is well negotiated by Van der Garde, while Kobayashi tries to overtake Hulkenberg. The championship leader, only 7th, is less celebrating than in the last three races.

A few laps from the finish, Villa went wide and lost two places, di Grassi and Grosjean infiltrating the gap. The Frenchman does not want to stop there and conquer the podium but the Brazilian resists the attacks of the Barwa driver. The positions no longer changed and, despite pressure from Luca Filippi, Giedo Van der Garde won during this second race at the Hungaroring. Romain Grosjean, having started on Saturday from 25th position, managed, in two races, to return to the foot of the podium, in order to score three important points. He remains in second position in the GP2 Series standings. The leader is still Nico Hülkenberg, who finishes in seventh place, does not score any points, but keeps a comfortable lead over the Frenchman.
