Johann Zarco certainly hoped for more from this first event of the Valencia Grand Prix – 9th at the finish – after his remarkable effort in Qualifying which earned him third place on the starting grid.
The Habs, however, are not going to spoil the benefit of their front row in the main race this Sunday, and already know what they will have to achieve.
“Jorge was behind me, and I knew he would be very strong at the start, however I had my best takeoff of the whole year this afternoon, underlines number 5 who spoke to the media. I couldn't negotiate the first corner properly, because I didn't dare to squeeze Martin too much. With someone else, I would have been much more frank in my approach.
This Sunday the situation should be similar, it will then be imperative to negotiate this first turn better, but also not to lose positions afterwards, continues the Cannes resident. I'm hoping to have a less intense race, because I'm convinced that if everyone wears mediums, I will be able to take advantage of the tire management. »
While he sits between the two championship rivals on this weekend's grid, one could argue that Jorge Martín's teammate's job would have been easier if Francesco Bagnaia had won the title this Saturday. However, this data does not impact the Frenchman in his quest for results.
“I don’t think it changes anything,” concludes Zarco.
