Last weekend, the Buriram Circuit in Thailand was the scene of the debuts of three Rookies in MotoGP : Ai Ogura, Fermin Aldeguer and Somkiat Chantra. Among them, the first one particularly stood out, finishing in fifth place in the main race, behind the Ducatis.
He could have done even better. Ai Ogura started the race from fifth on the grid and quickly moved up to fourth. He then dropped back down the order to Franco Morbidelli. His end of the race was not easy, as he had to maintain a comfortable distance from the drivers behind him throughout the 26 laps, which he did.
Hailed by many of his peers, Ai Ogura forces comparison with Marc Marquez. No rookie had performed as well on his debut since the Spaniard, at the 2013 Grand Prix in Qatar. For his part, Davide Brivio, the team manager of Trackhouse Racing, does not hide his enthusiasm, but prefers to temper his expectations.
Nothing changes for Trackhouse Racing
“Another great day for the team thanks to Ai's performance, confides the Italian. He practically repeated the excellent race we did in Sprint. His pace was very good, he was always with the best and we are very proud to see that. Of course, we leave Thailand with a great confirmation of his talent and potential in MotoGP.
For Ai, I think this great performance doesn't change our plan, He continues. We want to allow him to learn as much as possible and try to use these days to improve, to understand MotoGP better and to learn more and more. We reset everything, we go to Argentina and we will see what Ai can do there.
The rookie will therefore arrive at Termas de Rio Hondo with the least additional pressure on his shoulders regarding his team. This next challenge will already take place in a few days.
