That a Márquez would take Ducati's first victory of the season isn't particularly surprising, but that Álex would do it is more astonishing! The Gresini Racing rider won once again, having overtaken his brother in the opening laps, who subsequently crashed out. While not quite at the same level as in the 2025 season, which saw him finish as runner-up in the world championship, Álex Márquez took advantage of the return to Europe, and to his home track, to reassert himself at the top of the standings.
After three difficult Grands Prix, the Cervera native was back in form right from the first practice sessions at Jerez. A reassuring sign before his home Grand Prix. « There are no words that can describe what I feel., he explained upon arrival. "We had a lot of difficulties at the start of the season, but we arrived here with a good feeling, and with a good way of doing things operationally."
After a convincing warm-up this morning, Márquez had easily defined his strategy, which saw him attacking at 100% as soon as the lights went out. Clearly head and shoulders above the rest, he was the only one to have completed laps in the 1:37 range… with the exception of the last lap, where he was busy waving to the massive crowd (97,000 spectators) in the final, very fast corners of the circuit!
“Today, for me, it was very clear: I wanted to attack from the first lap, take the lead, and set my own pace. I knew I had the potential to maintain a very good pace all the way to the finish, and we saw that—almost every lap in the 1:37 range except the last one, but I was starting to acknowledge the crowd! Thank you to the team, who never stopped working and who always believed in me. Thank you to all the Spanish fans who are here and who are truly incredible.”
Number 73 has now moved back into seventh position in the world championship standings ahead of the French Grand Prix at Le Mans in two weeks.
