Nearly a second and a half behind his brother Marc, Alex Márquez once again seemed completely unable to challenge the factory Ducati in a regular manner. Despite the championship leader's poor start and Pecco Bagnaia experiencing a momentary drop in pace during the race, the Spaniard was unable to take advantage of all these opportunities to take the victory.
"I did my best at the start of the race when Pecco was leading. I knew I had more pace than him, and I wanted to get in front to save my front tire and avoid overheating it, he explained to the microphone of the MotoGP. In the first corner, when there were three of us abreast, it was frankly remarkable!”
Management to be optimized for Alex Márquez?
Despite successfully completing his first task of the day, Alex Márquez was unable to defend Marc Márquez after his elder rider's rapid comeback. Clearly able to accelerate again at the end of the race, the winner of this sprint seemed to have a margin that made the Gresini rider regret the scenario at the start of the race.
"I may have pushed a bit too hard in these hot conditions, and so I damaged the front tyre a bit too much, regretted Alex MárquezThe main thing is that I tried. I'm happy with the sprint, Sunday will be a long race but we're happy with today."
Indeed, this Sunday's race will be longer and will also force the drivers to conserve their tires even more at the start. From the front row, will the Spaniard manage to move more quickly to limit tire degradation, or will the scenario be quite similar once again? The answer will be at 14 p.m. this Sunday.
