Caught out by capricious weather while showing excellent pace in the dry, Álex Márquez (Gresini) believes he was mainly a victim of circumstances.

« Everything was going as planned " he explained in the mixed zone to the media, including AUTOhebdo in Jerez, before summarizing the situation with clarity: the weather is unpredictable "On a track that was still mostly dry until turns 12 and 13, the Spaniard chose to stay on track, even though a pit stop one lap earlier would probably have been the best option.

« The right time was a lap earlier. For one reason or another, I decided not to go back. "He admits it. A hesitation that cost him dearly when conditions suddenly deteriorated. "It was too wet for slick tires," the Spaniard believes.

Despite this timing error, Márquez refuses to dramatize the situation. Today, it wasn't a situation that could be anticipated. It was completely a matter of luck. " he insists, emphasizing the total unpredictability of the conditions.

The positive point lies elsewhere. Before the rain disrupted the hierarchy, the runner-up in the world championship had demonstrated a high level of performance. We saw great potential at the beginning: overtaking, lots of speed, we were really competitive. " he says, satisfied.

This gives them real ambitions for the main race, which is scheduled to be run in dry conditions. I feel really good in these conditions right now. We have a great opportunity tomorrow. " says Márquez, who prefers to focus on the positive lessons of the Sprint.

Despite the disappointment of his fall, the Spaniard displayed a confident composure. I'm pretty relaxed about tomorrow. " he says, convinced that the scenario could quickly turn in his favor.

This optimism was reinforced by what happened in Barcelona in 2025, during the Catalan Grand Prix: I also crashed at Montmeló and the next day I had won He had then won his second race in the premier category, but more importantly, he ended his older brother's streak of seven consecutive Sunday victories. Will history repeat itself this Sunday? Find out from 14:00 PM.
