Injured wrist after being swept away in a terrible fall on the first lap of the Catalan Grand Prix ten days ago, Alex Rins (Suzuki) could already make his return to the track at the German Grand Prix this week -end, at the Sachsenring. The Spaniard still has to pass some medical tests before being deemed fit and getting back on a motorcycle.

Final decision expected this Thursday

After a short break of ten days, the MotoGP is back to tackle the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. Meanwhile, Alex Rins began a program of electromagnetic therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, following a fractured pyramidal bone (triquetral) and trauma to his ankle. The Spaniard was involved in an accident that was impressive to say the least at the first corner of the Catalan Grand Prix, when Takaaki Nakagami lost control of his bike, taking on the Suzuki rider and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).

After a final medical check-up carried out by a doctor in Barcelona, Alex Rins decided to go to the Sachsenring:

“Alex Rins came to visit me on Wednesday morning before going to Germany to assess the shape of his wrist, we have carried out some tests and it seems that the fracture is doing well, but it is not healed yet, explains the doctor in charge of his follow-up. She has not moved and is stabilizing. Alex wants to try riding, but he may need painkillers and physical therapy these days. »

This Thursday, Rins will have to pass the final official checks by Dr. Angel Charte, medical director of MotoGP, as well as medical director of the Sachsenring circuit. They will then make the final decision, in order to declare him fit to race or not.

“During this last week, I worked very hard to try to rehabilitate my wrist as much as possible, details the main interested party. Following the advice of medical experts, I stuck to a recovery program, and tried to gain mobility and reduce pain. I hope to arrive in Germany in good condition and on Thursday I will pass the final medical exams with the MotoGP doctors at the circuit so they can tell me if I am fit to ride or not… and if I am, I'm going for it ! »

Suzuki will still be able to count on the 2020 MotoGP world champion, Joan Mir, eighth in the general classification, tied on points with his teammate (69). The two compatriots are still looking for their first victory of the year with the Japanese manufacturer, while as a reminder, the latter is preparing to leave the discipline at the end of the season. However, the two pilots have not yet communicated their future destination.
