Brazil's return to the calendar MotoGP The 2026 edition has generated a lot of discussion. While an electric atmosphere surrounded the event, fueled by the enthusiasm of the drivers and the public, the sporting results proved to be much more mixed. For this first edition in 22 years, the track did not live up to all expectations.

Despite being approved by the FIM after several inspections and a dress rehearsal in February, the Autódromo Internacional de Goiânia was initially put to the test by the elements. Flooded just days before the start of the season, the track was finally cleared in time for the first practice sessions.

However, it was the track surface that quickly drew criticism. Particularly bumpy, the circuit caught out numerous riders: 57 crashes were recorded over the weekend. For comparison, this figure would have placed the Brazilian Grand Prix third among the most accident-prone races of the 2025 season.

The real bombshell dropped on Saturday, a few hours before the Sprint, with the explosion of a " old, unrecorded sewer network located beneath the surface "causing a partial subsidence of the surface. If the defect was located outside the ideal trajectory, it made any attempt to overtake extremely dangerous. Thanks to the organizer's rapid intervention in less than two hours" with the support of experienced professionals, including experts accredited by the Formula 1 ", the program was able to resume almost normally, at the cost of postponing the Moto2 qualifying sessions to Sunday morning.

The difficulties continued on Sunday. After the Moto2 race, the asphalt showed worrying signs of deterioration. For safety reasons Race control has decided to reduce the MotoGP Grand Prix from 31 to 23 laps. This choice was justified after the fact by testimonies from riders claiming to have been injured by debris thrown up from the track during the race. On Sunday, due to high temperatures, a specific section on the left side of the track at Turn 12 showed signs of deterioration caused by application defects, which disrupted the drivers and teams. " regrets the Grand Prix promoter.

The promoter claims to have already taken stock of the incidents in preparation for the 2027 edition, noting above all the enthusiasm generated during the weekend. The Brazilian Grand Prix welcomed 148,384 spectators to the Autódromo Internacional de Goiânia – Ayrton Senna, demonstrating both the strong appeal of MotoGP in the country and the global growth potential of the sport. "As a reminder, the circuit is expected to be on the calendar until at least 2030.
