Assen – Qualifications: Bagnaia leaves his opponents no chance

Francesco Bagnaia in pole position at Assen - Michelin

Le MotoGP is back in Assen after three weeks of absence. The eighth round of the world championship is also the penultimate of this first part of the season, and will therefore be crucial for the championship leaders who wish to go on vacation with the confidence to lead the operations. The favorite for this event is Francesco Bagnaia. The Italian found the path to victory during the last two meetings to date. But also during the last two Assen GPs.

Free Practice 2:

  • Free Practice 2 was not a rest lap for Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez, who both crashed, causing them to lose valuable time on the sidelines of Qualifying.
  • Two incidents which brought a significant quantity of gravel onto the track. The track marshals were therefore forced to wave a red flag twelve minutes before the end of the session.
  • However, the pilots were able to leave a few moments later. In terms of time, Francesco Bagnaia still dominates. The Italian took the lead for the third time this weekend in as many sessions with a time of 1:31.670.

Qualification 1:

  • Many Q2 contenders take part in the first part of the qualifying session, but Fabio Di Giannantonio gets in front first. The Italian sets a time of 1:31.679, ahead of Pedro Acosta. Before the second outings on the track, fabio quartararo is less than two tenths of his ticket for Q2.
  • The Yamaha rider is also the first to get started, and brings down the reference mark. Pedro Acosta, however, recorded a time two tenths faster to put himself in front. Fabio Di Giannantonio, the last driver to complete his fast lap, put an end to the Frenchman's hopes by inserting himself between the first two.
  • The Niçois will start the weekend's races in thirteenth position. Johann Zarco finished Q2 in ninth place, and will therefore be 19th on the starting grid.

Qualification 2:

  • From the first attempts, the lap record established by Francesco Bagnaia in 1:31.340 fell. Martin even breaks his rival's mark by setting his own in 1:30.877.
  • This was without counting on the stunning response from the n°1, who came to slam a lap in 1:30.540, to relegate Martin to three tenths. He thus won his first pole position since the last Malaysian Grand Prix.
  • The Pramac driver tries to regain pole in a last effort, but fails 80 thousandths from pole. Fabio Di G completes the top-3.
  • Marc Marquez falls to seventh place after falling in the final moments. The Spaniard attempted a maneuver on Aleix Espargaro, also engaged in a fast lap. His audacity did not pay off, as he could be penalized for the incident.
  • Meet at around 15:00 p.m. for the start of the Sprint race of the MotoGP Grand Prix of Assen.
