Austria – Sprint: Bagnaia alone in the world

Bagnaia winner in Austria - Michelin

Le MotoGP officially begins its second part of the season this weekend, with the eleventh round of its 2024 season which will take place in Austria. At home, KTM will try to overturn the domination established by Ducati over many events, and will be able to count on its five representatives – with Pol Espargaro – to make the brand shine. THE Red Bull Ring will also be the scene of the ever more intense fight between Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin, who are separated by only three points before the first awards.

Sprint:

  • Pecco Bagnaia made the best start on the front row, but it was Jorge Martin who completed the first lap in the lead after the various battles between the two men. However, the number 1 will regain the advantage shortly after.
  • Spectator of this duel, Marc Marquez begins to lose ground from the third pass. He is then a little second behind Martin.
  • Behind the three leading Ducatis, Aleix Espargaro leads his boat alone, in fourth position, while Franco Morbidelli gets rid of the three factory KTMs, taking Enea Bastianini in his wake.

Bagnaia towards victory

  • Jorge Martin made Pecco Bagnaia's task easier by receiving a Long Lap for bypassing a chicane. Once his penalty was served, he found himself three seconds behind Marc Marquez, in third position.
  • While trying to get back into the lead of the race, Marc Marquez entered turn 4 too early and lost control of his machine. After his fall at Silverstone, this is the second consecutive Sprint in which the No. 93 made a mistake. An incident which propelled, as in Great Britain, Aleix Espargaro onto the podium.

  • Alone in the lead, Pecco Bagnaia headed straight for victory, and caught up with Jorge Martin in the championship. The two contenders for the title now have 250 units each.
  • Martin finished second, ahead of Espargaro. Enea Bastianini manages to get rid of Morbidelli and the KTMs to take fourth place at the finish.
  • fabio quartararo took advantage of some racing events to climb up to 12th position. Johann Zarco finishes the Sprint 15th. A similar ranking in the main race would earn points for the two Frenchmen.
