Francesco Bagnaia did not convert the first of his two match points for the championship in Valencia. Author of a cautious Sprint, the Italian reached the finish line in fifth position when his rival for the championship, Jorge Martin, took all possible risks and was rewarded with a victory.

Fourteen points now separate the two men in the standings, and if the Pramac driver repeats his feat this Sunday, Bagnaia will have to finish fifth at worst to be crowned. However, the reigning world champion says he is certain that by making a better choice of strategy, he will be able to easily fight for the podium.

“We made the wrong choice with the tires today, and Jorge was faster, he admits on the spot to the media. I know we have the speed to fight for a podium tomorrow. However, if the result is the same in the main race, I will be champion.

It will be important to get an excellent start in the main race, like that of the Sprint, continues the Ducati rider. Fourteen points is nothing at all, but we are starting from the front so we still have the advantage. »

In theory, Bagnaia will have the opportunity to manage his race, without trying to take too many risks. However, he could be more aggressive than this Saturday, preferring to attack rather than be attacked.

“It will depend on Jorge's ranking, but if he is ahead, it is clear that I will think about taking all the risks for the championship, adds #1. I think we both have a lot of pressure. »

A pressure that Bagnaia already knows having experienced and overcome it last year on the same circuit, when Martin fought for a world title for the first time. See you this Sunday, November 26 at 15:00 p.m., to experience the last departure of this 2023 season of MotoGP.
