We had to wait until the very last moments of this 2023 season of MotoGP to discover the name of the new world champion. Taking advantage of Jorge Martín's fall during the final round of the season, Francesco Bagnaia won his second crown in the premier category.
The task was not easy, given that only fourteen points separated him from his closest pursuer before the lights went out. Bagnaia had many rivals on his way to victory but was able to ward off the numerous attacks and take advantage of a few falls to be crowned with honors.
This trophy rewards an exceptional 2023 season. In 20 weekends of competition, the Ducati rider won 6 main races, as well as 4 of the 19 Sprints (that of the Australian GP having been canceled). The Italian will also have won 7 (8 if we count this Sunday) pole positions, and 14 podiums before being crowned on enemy soil.
The two Ducati riders left no chance to the competition this season, and mathematically established themselves as the only two title contenders from the Malaysian Grand Prix. In total they will have shared 10 top 3s on Saturday against 5 podiums on Sunday.
A striking duo which could prove much more dangerous in 2024, since it is rumored that the two rivals are preparing to strengthen their ties to team up in the factory team, with Martin joining Ducati Lenovo to share the garage of the Reds alongside the now double MotoGP world champion.
