Bagnaia triumphs, Zarco misses the mark at Silverstone

Francesco Bagnaia won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone ahead of Maverick Viñales and Jack Miller. Disappointment for Johann Zarco who made a mistake alone while he was in the lead.

A lot of us said to ourselves, “this one is for Jojo”… Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go as planned. Starting from pole position, Johann Zarco nevertheless made the best start to take the lead at the first braking, closely followed by fabio quartararo, who started from fourth position. Jack Miller was then in third place not far ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Rins, Maverick Viñales. Aleix Espargaro, although diminished by his heavy fall in FP4, was not very far away either.

Increasingly insistent behind Zarco, Quartararo waited until the fourth round to comply with his Long Lap after being warned by the commissioners in the second round. The world champion, who had trained several times during the weekend, lost a few positions to return to the track in fifth position. From then on, the Frenchman had to work hard to try to move up the hierarchy against machines much more powerful than his own, even Rins' GSX-RR.

On the sixth lap, Zarco made a mistake in turn 8 and had to put an end to one of the best opportunities to achieve his first success in MotoGP. Miller therefore inherited the controls with being overtaken by Rins, determined to make the Suzuki triumph before his departure.

If the Spaniard gave everything to win, it was without counting on the power of the Ducati. Bagnaia took the lead at 12e lap followed by his teammate Miller. Rins then lost ground. Viñales took advantage of the opportunity to take the advantage over Rins before setting off in pursuit of the two Ducatis. Meanwhile, Quatarararo gradually tumbled down the rankings. First sixth, then seventh and finally eighth, he had to lose to Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, who finished the race in fourth place, or even Miguel Oliveira on the handlebars of his KTM. Fortunately, the Frenchman was able to resist Espargaro who could do nothing to pass and finished the race in ninth position.

Marco Bezzecchi closed the doors to the Top 10 at 6.646s from Bagnaia… the second Top 10 in the history of the category!

Overall, Quartararo saves the furniture and takes advantage of Zarco's fall and Espargaro's small poor performance to gain even a point over his Spanish rival. Ahead of the next meeting in Austria, he is now 22 lengths ahead of Espargaro and 49 ahead of Bagnaia, now in third place.
