Bastianini on the new saddle backrest: “Important to know if it’s better or not”

After Aprilia at Mugello, Ducati's turn to unveil a new seat backrest this Friday during the second free practice session of the British GP. Enea Bastianini's GP21 was in fact equipped with a backsplash fitted with fins with a very particular design.

Although intriguing, this innovation gave the Italian a good feeling. “The feeling is good at the moment,” he said. Tomorrow we will have to try better. I had to go back to the previous version and then tested again, because it's important to understand if it's better or not. My first impression is that it's good, especially during braking phases, it's more stable. And when it comes to top speed, it's not bad. I think tomorrow will be good for qualifying. »

And Bastianini continues: “Braking is the strongest point of these fins (…). I think we will try again on Saturday and if my feeling is better it will be good. The pace is not very fast at the moment, but during the time attack, I made a good step. Tomorrow we will have other solutions to try, so we will see. »

The Gresini rider, whose future in MotoGP is still not fixed, should therefore ride with this new backsplash that Gigi Dall'Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, presented to Bastianini on Thursday. You will have to wait a few sessions before knowing the real benefits. However, if the trend spreads to other manufacturers, the regulations may well have to change.
