Brad Binder, player and raincoat

There are victories that are decided on a roll of the dice. Others on a whim. The one won last weekend in Austria by Brad Binder has a bit of both. Ninth in the first round, eighth at halfway, the South African was far from imagining ending his weekend at Spielberg by climbing to the highest step of the podium. Since his victory at the Czech Republic Grand Prix at the beginning of August 2020, the KTM rider had no longer managed to slip his RC16 under the checkered flag into the leading trio. “It was my one and only objective for the weekend,” confided Miguel Oliveira’s teammate at the finish of the Austrian Grand Prix. I had approached this podium several times, but there was always something to prevent me from finding it again. » This time again, Brad Binder ended up no longer believing it. “From halfway through the race, I lost a lot of grip at the rear,” says the Potchefstroom driver. I could no longer slow down the bike when entering a corner. » And then the rain got involved. First a few drops. Then a real downpour which soaked the circuit and pushed the leading men to stop.
