Brilliant last year, Pedro Acosta makes his self-criticism before his debut at KTM

When we arrive in MotoGP as young and as fast as you perform, the comparisons multiply and Pedro Acosta was starting to get fed up last year. The Shark of Mazarrón does not appreciate being compared to Marc Marquez, despite the immense career of his elder, probably as much out of pride as respect for the eight-time world champion. However, the beginnings of the two compatriots presented some similarities. If Marc Marquez was world champion in his rookie season, Pedro Acosta has still not won a Grand Prix, but the 2 Moto2023 champion wowed observers by climbing onto the podium of the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the year, in Portugal, then in Texas.

The third youngest rider to climb on the box at just 19 years old, the one who then wore the colours of Tech3 Gas-Gas did better than Marc Marquez or fabio quartararo for example. His first part of the season was in the same vein, with an impressive burst of speed, but also very few mistakes. But in the heart of the season, things were a little less brilliant. Pedro Acosta experienced the first slump of his young career in the premier class, notably during the Asian tour where he fell four times in a row in races, sprints and Grands Prix combined.

Acosta on his way to his first victory in 2025?

"We lacked consistency", he assumes in an interview with MCN. "We tend to think that the easiest path is the straight line, but sometimes you have to take turns and experience ups and downs. Today, I am much more confident.". Don't be fooled by the new KTM rider's high standards for himself: his first year was, whatever he says, a resounding success. Finishing 6th in the championship with 5 podiums in the Grand Prix, he ended his rookie year just two points behind Brad Binder, the experienced KTM leader, who has since become his teammate.

The two men will defend the colours of the Austrian factory team, which is going through a difficult economic period, but maintains great ambitions in MotoGP, like its young rider still looking for his first victory. "I can't wait to see myself in orange again! We are more competitive and more protected from falls. Now we have to stay calm and see how the first races go. I will try to relax and the results will come." By finishing in the top four in the first three days of pre-season testing in Thailand, Pedro Acosta showed he is ready to tackle the season next weekend, once again at the Buriram circuit.
