It would not be correct to give all the credit for Ducati's racing success to its racing department manager, Luigi Dall'Igna. However, it is clear that since his arrival at the head of Ducati Corse at the end of 2013, the Italian engineer has allowed the Borgo Panigale manufacturer to regain its splendor until winning recognition in 2022.

In 2022, Ducati has 32 podiums, including 12 victories, and the triple crown (driver with Francesco Bagnaia, manufacturers and teams). “This World Championship is an immense satisfaction for the entire Ducati team as well as for me,” said Gigi Dall'Igna after Bagnaia's coronation in Valencia. It's a title that this team and our brand deserve, which comes from the commitment and expertise of very competent people and technicians, added to the incredible talent and maturity of Pecco. The day we are experiencing today rewards us for all the work we have accomplished. Now that we've reached the summit, the next step is to stay there. »

Between the 2014 and 2022 seasons, Desmosedici has gradually established itself as a contender for the crown. Andrea Dovizioso came close three times between 2017 and 2019, but he had to settle for the status of runner-up behind Marc Marquez. However, since 2020, Ducati has never left first place in the manufacturers' ranking.

A first since 2011

In the margins of MotoGP, Ducati is very involved in the Superbike world championship (championship for production motorcycles). Ducati has always been at the forefront there. To realize this, you only need to look at the number of podiums for the brand since the advent of the category in 1988. Today, the Bologna firm has a total of no less than 1022 podiums, including 392 successes, almost the double from Kawasaki (523 podiums, including 177 victories), second in the standings.

However, despite its 14 titles (riders) in the category before 2022, Ducati had to wait for the return of Alvaro Bautista to its ranks to return to the top for the first time since 2011 (with Carlos Checa). “An unforgettable season! wrote Gigi Dall'Igna on Facebook. We can confidently say that we have truly kept our promises: a historic success for a year 2022 that will forever hold a place in our hearts. The MotoGP-Superbike double has transformed into a splendid quadruplet, with the Manufacturers' World Championships, without forgetting the team titles. I would like to pay tribute and thank again all the women and men of Ducati Corse who, through their commitment and dedication, have made this year so memorable: I am really proud of you all! »
