Moto2 is the intermediate category of the Grand Prix world championship. It is located between Moto3 and MotoGP. This category replaced the 250cc 2-strokes in 2010. To put it simply, a Moto2 is made up of a single chassis and engine common to all riders, a single-make championship, but for the engine only. It is in fact a championship in which chassis manufacturers compete. Between 2010 and 2018, a Honda engine derived from the CBR 600 was used in Moto2. Since 2019, Triumph has been the exclusive engine manufacturer for Moto2 with a 765cc three-cylinder engine.
A headache for some, a success for others
During the Honda era, there were no electronics in Moto2; the engine architecture of the CBR is notably not equipped with ride-by-wire (electronic throttle management). On the other hand, since 2019, Magneti Marelli allows pilots to play electronically with the engine braking and traction control.
Since 2010, many people have lost their teeth in Moto2. First, there are those who have never understood the instructions for using a 4-stroke engine and who have undergone the transition to Moto2 after having shone on the handlebars of a 250cc (or a 125cc ).
