The Portuguese Grand Prix was the scene of a first major clash within the Ducati fold. Throughout the weekend in Portimao, Marc Marquez gained confidence aboard his Desmosedici GP23, to the point of worrying the other contenders for victory.

On Sunday, in the main race, the eight-time world champion did not score any points. Sixth during the second part of the event, the Spaniard tried to take advantage of Francesco Bagnaia's less good form at the end of the race to get the better of the latter, which he managed to do.

However, in a hurry, the Italian tried to go to the inside in the next corner and took the Gresini driver wide, causing them both to crash.

A first incident which could already highlight a certain form of annoyance on the part of the factory team regarding the return of Marc Marquez, especially under their banner.

“There are a lot of positives to take from the Portuguese Grand Prix, but this weekend also has a negative side, in a race which concentrated all the emotions in the last two laps, expresses Gigi Dall'Igna, director of Ducati. The incident between Pecco and Marc is very unfortunate.

It prevented both from scoring important points for the championship standings, in a complex race in which they could not fight for victory, He continues. In all honesty, any further comments would be completely superfluous. »

Shy in broaching the subject, there was no question for the Italian of discussing the responsibility of one of the two. He will be content to point out the difficulties of the n°1 throughout this second meeting of the season.

“It was a difficult weekend for Pecco, in which we did not manage to find the right balance, unlike what we were able to do on other occasions, although in the sprint race everything seemed going well until the mistake which cost him the victory, He recalls. A feeling of uncertainty, a constant struggle, all of this was finally confirmed in the worst possible way. We will have to understand why and immediately find the solution, without alarmism: that is what counts in the end. »
