Darryn Binder confirmed in MotoGP in the RNF team on Yamaha for 2022

It wasn't a secret, but it's now official: Darryn Binder will make the jump from Moto3 to MotoGP in 2022 within the RNF Racing team, the new structure which follows the announcement of the withdrawal of Petronas from the Grand Prix paddock.

After seven years in Moto3, Binder will skip Moto2 to work alongside Andrea Dovizioso on the YZR-M1. Others before him have already made this transition like the Australians Jack Miller or Garry McCoy, and both have won in the premier category. “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, because it is a lifelong dream to race in MotoGP,” rejoices the youngest of the Binder brothers. I didn't expect to go straight from Moto3 to the highest category, but I believe I'm ready to take on the challenge and work hard for 2022. My goal at the start will just be to get my bearings and learn as much as possible to get stronger and stronger throughout my rookie year. I want to say a big thank you to Yamaha and the RNF MotoGP team for everything they have done to make this possible, and to everyone who has helped get me to this point. I now look forward to riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 for the first time at the end of the season. »

RNF Racing with Yamaha for 2022 (for now…)

This therefore closes the door to a possible arrival of Toprak Razgatlioglu, who leads the Superbike world championship, in MotoGP. It’s a bet on the part of Yamaha, but also of the RNF team led by Razlan Razali, who has just announced its collaboration with the Iwata firm for the 2022 season with an option for 2023 and 2024. “We “We are delighted to extend our partnership with the now renamed MotoGP RNF team,” said Lin Jarvis, managing director of Yamaha Motor Racing. When Razlan Razali and the Sepang Racing Team embarked on the MotoGP adventure in late 2018 and early 2019, no one could have expected how they would take the premier class by storm. The impressive results of the 2019 season and exceptional results of the 2020 season underline the professionalism and quality of this team which will soon be renamed RNF MotoGP Team. The core DNA of this team remains, so we are confident in continuing with them as our officially supported satellite structure.

He added: “In addition, Yamaha has always been clear about its desire to continue to have four motorcycles in total on the MotoGP grid: two motorcycles in the Factory Team and two motorcycles in the independent team. We will do our best to support the new RNF Racing Ltd team to achieve its goals and serve as a springboard for future talents to enter the world of Yamaha in MotoGP.”

This announcement is interesting since it leaves the possibility of another structure inheriting the Yamaha satellites in 2023. And obviously, we immediately think of the VR46 team even if the contract which binds the team of Valentino Rossi to Ducati is signed for three years…
