Having already finished second in Saturday's Sprint, Jorge Martín confirmed his excellent weekend at Mugello with another second-place finish, this time in Sunday's Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider admitted he needed to regain his confidence after a particularly difficult Catalan Grand Prix. Leaving Barcelona, the 2024 world champion had lost points to Marco Bezzecchi, who was also struggling. While the Italian once again outpaced the Madrid native this time, the pace set by Bezzecchi was truly unsustainable.
“I’m very happy, the team worked really well all weekend. I was trying to regain my confidence but I struggled a bit this weekend. We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m really grateful to Aprilia for all the work they’ve put in. Marco was very impressive today, congratulations to him because a win at Mugello is certainly very special for him. We need to keep this momentum going.”
Still second in the world championship, Jorge Martín now trails his teammate Marco Bezzecchi by 17 points, with Bezzecchi continuing his dominant lead after his fourth Grand Prix victory. However, as in 2024 against Pecco Bagnaia, Martín has shown exceptional speed on Saturdays during sprint races, allowing him to close the gap on his teammate, who has so far won more than half of the Grands Prix held in the season.
