During the final two hours of the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans motorcycle race, the order was significantly shaken up by several incidents and safety car interventions. After 20:00 PM, the No. 1 Yamaha was still leading, under constant pressure from the No. 37 BMW, separated by only a few seconds, while the No. 5 Honda completed the provisional podium.
The race, however, took a dramatic turn with a series of mechanical problems. The #36 Yamaha suffered an engine failure, bringing out the safety car to allow for track cleanup. Shortly afterward, the #4 Honda of the Tati Team encountered an irreparable mechanical issue, forcing the team to retire despite a promising pace, as Mike Di Meglio pointed out.
The neutralization period completely reshuffled the deck. At the restart, the #37 BMW capitalized on the situation to take the lead. Steven Odendaal, then Markus Reiterberger, managed this phase perfectly, opening up a slight gap on their pursuers. The #1 Yamaha, however, remains in contention, with Marvin Fritz now at the handlebars, attempting to reclaim the lead.
Another notable event was the spectacular crash of Corentin Perolari's Honda #5, which involved the Yamaha #16. Despite the severity of the accident, both riders escaped injury, but the motorcycle required extensive repairs. After a 16-minute pit stop, Alan Techer rejoined the race in 31st position, jeopardizing the team's podium hopes. This also served as a warning to their rivals regarding the complexities of managing traffic.
