The 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans motorcycle race concluded at Le Mans with a victory for the number 1 Yamaha of YART. The official Iwata-based team secured its second consecutive win after a well-controlled and sustained race. However, things hadn't started ideally for the pole-sitting machine. Caught out by a poor start, Yamaha lost several positions in the early laps, allowing its rivals to take the lead. But very quickly, the crew of Karel Hanika, Marvin Fritz, and Leandro Mercado regained control of the race, setting a solid pace and capitalizing on their opponents' misfortunes.

After taking the lead at daybreak, the reigning champion team managed a comfortable advantage, fluctuating between four and six laps, to reach the finish line without incident. This lead remained constant after nightfall. In the final hours, all that remained was to manage the gap, navigate traffic smoothly, and avoid any mistakes to secure this sixth victory for the Japanese factory team.

Behind them, the Yoshimura SERT Motul Suzuki #12 demonstrated its strength despite a start to the race hampered by electronic issues. Slower than the Yamaha throughout the weekend, SERT showed consistency after correcting its problems, securing second place and never relinquishing it. Despite a few minor setbacks, including an unscheduled pit stop near the end of the race, the Suzuki was never truly challenged by its rivals.

The podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans motorcycle race was contested until the very end.

Behind them, the Kawasaki #11 completed the podium. While lacking pure pace compared to the favorites, the team managed to stay in contention and avoid mishaps, capitalizing on the circumstances, particularly in the final hours which proved disastrous for BMW.

This edition was marked by numerous twists and turns. Among the most significant events, the retirement of car number 99 proved to be a turning point. After an engine failure in the opening hours of the race, Florian Marino, Alessandro Delbianco, and Randy De Puniet were eliminated from contention for the win. They had, however, managed to lead the first few laps after a blistering start.

But the biggest losers remain the drivers of the No. 37 BMW. Having been in contention for the win for much of the race, Markus Reiterberger, Steven Odendaal and Michael Van der Mark have Their race collapsed in the final hours. After a series of mechanical problems in the morning, a crash, followed by a penalty for a collision at turn 7, cost them valuable time. Reliability issues in the final hour of the race forced them into a very long pit stop. The German manufacturer thus dropped down the standings, ultimately finishing 23rd in the 24 Hours of Le Mans motorcycle race.

Honda, for its part, also encountered significant problems and was unable to compete for the front positions. Early in the race, a heavy crash by Corentin Perolari forced the team of the #5 bike to stop for over 15 minutes for repairs, and they rejoined the race in mid-pack. At the finish, after a remarkable comeback, the team finished 12th.

These 24 Hours of Le Mans motorcycles launched the world championship ofEndurance motorcycle, and confirm that Yamaha will be the team to beat this season. The next round of the championship will take place at Spa-Francorchamps next June.
