Under bright sunshine and ideal conditions, Aleix Espargaro was the fastest in the opening session of the Aragon GP. The Catalan, although he made a mistake, clocked a time of 1'48.686.

On one of his favorite circuits, Espargaro is currently 12 thousandths ahead of the Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia, who scored his first success in MotoGP right here last year. Alex Rins placed his Suzuki GSX-RR third ahead of the top Honda of Takaaki Nakagami.

The Japanese, who has just announced the extension of his contract with the LCR team, recorded his very first MotoGP pole position on this track in 2020. He is ahead of two other Ducati, that of Johann Zarco and Enea Bastianini.

Miguel Oliveira is credited with the seventh fastest time ahead of fabio quartararo, which seems clearly in difficulty in the last sector. The Frenchman is currently four tenths behind Espargaro.

Franco Morbidelli, who was also one of the winners at MotorLand in MotoGP, finished FP1 in ninth position ahead of Luca Marini.

Back 110 days after his last race at Mugello, Marc Marquez inherited 11e time ahead of Jorge Martin and Jack Miller.
