And 4 for Bagnaia at the San Marino GP, Quartararo finishes fifth

After Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo, Francesco Bagnaia became this Sunday the fourth driver in the history of MotoGP to string together four victories in a row. A performance achieved at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where he repeated the blows of Assen, Silverstone and Spielberg on his opponents. Enough to delight the Ducatists, present in large numbers at home this weekend.

After a good start, Pecco took control from the first kilometers, helped by the fall of his teammate Jack Miller, who was leading. During a good part of the exercise, he led a leading quartet also made up of Maverick Viñales, Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini. The latter, entering the last quarter of the race, became Pecco's main rival in the fight for victory. A struggle to which fabio quartararo couldn't get involved.

Eighth on the grid, the Frenchman made his way into the top-5 on the sixth lap, overtaking the man who was then his runner-up in the championship, Aleix Espargaro. But he was then unable to make up the gap he had on the leaders, in a race where the pace was very high among all the podium candidates.

The observation round between the two leaders lasted until the last lap. Slightly faster, Enea Bastianini almost hit his rival and compatriot when braking late. In the end, he did not tempt the devil, preferring to try to overtake in the final straight. The overtaking never took place: Francesco Bagnaia won by 34 thousandths ahead of the Gresini driver, who scored his first podium since the French Grand Prix in May and the fifth in a row at Misano.

Maverick Viñales completes the Top 3, his third in four races, and confirms that the Aprilia RS-GP is now truly his. Luca Marini (4th) equals his best career result, Fabio Quartararo (5th) limits the damage and is ahead of Aleix Espargaro (6th). Alex Rins, Jorge Martin, Brad Binder and Alex Marquez bring up the rear of the top-10. Andrea Dovizioso concludes his 346th and final Grand Prix with a positive 12th place in front of his fans. Yamaha test rider Cal Crutchlow will replace him from the next event, at MotorLand Aragón, from September 16-18.

Still leader of the championship, Fabio Quartararo sees Francesco Bagnaia go from 44 to 30 points behind. The Ducati representative is his new runner-up as he overtakes Aleix Espargaro, now 33 lengths behind. Hit at the start, Johann Zarco leaves Misano with a blank result and drops to fifth place in the general classification.
