Francesco Bagnaia has achieved what only Casey Stoner had managed to do on a Ducati: string together three victories in a row. This Sunday in Austria, the Italian proved almost untouchable. Author of the best start, he then masterfully directed the hostilities.

Although threatened by his teammate Jack Miller at the start of the race, Bagnaia, wearing a soft tire at the front, was able to respond to regain the advantage. He then worked hard to achieve his third success in a row.

But even more impressive than the Ducati rider, fabio quartararo had a truly incredible race. Author of a good start, he found himself sixth in the first score behind Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, Miller, Jorge Martin and Maverick Viñales. The world champion, slightly behind in the first four laps, then began a good comeback. He took advantage of the duel between Martin and Bastianini to make the connection. Bastianini had to give up due to a technical problem, allowing Quartararo to gain a position.

The Frenchman then took shelter from Aleix Espargaro, author of a bad start, by settling comfortably in fourth position. Patient, Quartararo waited more than 10 laps to gradually come back in the wake of Martin and Miller then fighting for second place. It was 12 laps from the checkered flag that the race took its first turn with Martin's straight ahead into the new chicane. Quartararo thus inherited third position not far behind Miller. Left behind when accelerating, the Niçois managed to make up for his delay in the winding sections. Miller having slowed the pace, Martin took the opportunity to get into contact, but Quartararo quickly made a decisive attack in the chicane to deprive Miller of second position and set off in pursuit of Bagnaia, but it was already too late. However, he signed the best result for a Yamaha in the Red Bull ring.

Along the way, he carried out an excellent operation in the championship since he only conceded five points to Bagnaia and increased his lead over Espargaro to 32 points who ultimately had to settle for sixth place. “It was one of my best races, but it's difficult to do a race like that, he said upon arrival. I was always on the limit, I almost fell several times. This circuit is very difficult. I had a good start, but the first few laps weren't very good. I then started to climb back (…) Perhaps with a few more laps I could have caught up with Pecco, but it was a very trying race. »

Miller finished third while Martin made a mistake on the last lap. Luca Marini therefore found himself promoted to fourth place (his best result in MotoGP). After a good start to the race, Johann Zarco ultimately completed the Top 5. The Frenchman had to pull straight ahead to avoid hitting some of his opponents. He was then pushed back to eighth place before moving back up…

For his part, Espargaro saves the furniture by arriving in sixth position after having to jostle against Brad Binder who finishes with the status of KTM representative. Alex Rins places the first Suzuki in eighth position ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, who started from 20e position. The Italian took ninth place ahead of Martin who was finally able to take the checkered flag.
