Fabio Quartararo meets the new generation

Last week, the third edition of the Yamaha bLU cRU camp was held on the Clastres circuit, two hours from Paris, reserved for 30 riders aged 10 to 20, girls and boys, who ride speed or motocross.

After paying the registration fee of €290, the young pilots follow four days of training and workshops given by pilots or industry players, and among them, a certain fabio quartararo, current leader of the ranking MotoGP. " I would have liked to participate in an event like this when I was little, during which a leader in the World Championship comes to see us ride, confides the Yamaha rider. I find it very interesting that Yamaha is organizing this camp. More than giving them advice, I think it gives them a boost to see so many athletes. It was a pleasure to attend. »

« When I was little, I did the Conti courses, but it was in a different form, there were no drivers. Far too many young people are training hard, but the most important thing is to have fun on a motorcycle, because that's where you go fast, it comes naturally. Talents are identified very early, even well before the CEV. »

Yamaha Motor France is at the initiative of this project which requires nearly €100 to complete, but for Eric De Seynes, CEO and President of Yamaha Motor Europe, it is worth the effort. “ Yamaha is deeply rooted in competition, He explains. We have two sectors. A sector of excellence that is MotoGP where our vocation is to be at the cutting edge of technology and a sporting sector which is our responsibility on a European scale. MotoGP is Japan, while we are the sport that has always been part of Yamaha's DNA. In motorcycling, we do not have the marketing budget which allows us to carry out powerful advertising campaigns and Yamaha Europe's investment in competition represents more than half of our overall investment in marketing and communication by year. So 55% of our expenses are competition! »

« We consider that it is our responsibility to ensure that today the high level is nourished by a certain number of lower levels in which a Yamaha rider must be able to express himself, must be able to be detected and then helped to pass to the next level. Which makes this bLU cRU sector a sector that demonstrates the responsibility of our commitment. We chose the Superbike speed sector because in MotoGP, where the bikes are prototypes, the budgets could be dangerous. In motorcycling, if there is something that most resembles Formula 1, it is MotoGP, and I do not necessarily want to support what resembles Formula 1, because I find that today Today the money filter becomes much too important. I prefer the sports filter! We are lucky to have a speed sector in motorcycles which is the Superbike, the Supersport 600 and the Supersport 300, which are motorcycles from the series, and where budgets have nothing to do with it.."

And regarding the bLU cRU sector, Eric De Seynes added: “ When we organize a camp like the bLU cRU, that means that we have here 30 young French people who we were able to identify, who applied, and for whom we noted a talent for driving, mentality, motivation, involvement and understanding of the challenges of the race. Because the race is demanding and the mind plays an extremely important part. In motorcycling, we all know that the rider is still dominant, whatever the discipline. Here, we give ourselves the chance that in all our promotion formulas, all our formulas which allow us to support the different levels, we also take into account the mind, we manage to detect, and that allows us to be sure not to miss a pilot. Maybe this one will never be world champion, but at least, on the scale of the capacities and potentials that we have in France, as a manufacturer, we have the impression of having assumed our commitment moral. »

And the result of this camp is clear for the young riders of tomorrow like Justine Pedemonte who started motorcycling at the age of 9. “It’s important to me because it helps me progress, declared the Nice woman. We are supervised by professional pilots like Jules Cluzel or Christophe Guyot who help us a lot. And there is even Fabio Quartararo who came to give us a little surprise. It also allows us to be more rigorous. Usually we are surrounded by our parents, but in this camp we are alone. However, there is a good team spirit. We also discover other disciplines such as motocross. During these four days, we learn a lot both on and off the bike. »

Christophe Guyot, team manager of GMT94 in the World Supersport World Championship, presents Justine Pedemonte with her diploma.

Now aged 14, Justine Pedemonte competes in the French FSBK Championship in the 300cc category within the CMS team. “ I would really like to join the world, she added. But maybe not in 300cc… When I am a little older, I would rather like to go to 600cc and much later, when I have finished with speed, I would like to move into endurance, a discipline which I like a lot. »

After these four days, the “students” participated in a diploma ceremony signed by the hands of the pilots who came to supervise them. They also received a personal passport which contains the assessments of the “teachers” on different themes related to their piloting. Among these young people is perhaps the future World Champion... In any case, Yamaha is doing everything possible not to miss him or her!
