From the very first sessions, the Frenchman struggled to find confidence with the front end, a strength of previous Grands Prix that had helped him achieve excellent qualifying times.

Right now, my mindset is to try and stay safe." At Mugello, he is therefore playing it safe: « This weekend, I don't really feel like pushing myself. I don't feel comfortable. Honestly, it's not even a loss of motivation. It's seeing that there's no improvement. Next weekend will be different, but right now, I'm not very encouraged.

Outclassed in qualifying by his teammate for the first time this season, Fabio Quartararo "He's not looking for excuses."Beyond pure performance, it's his feelings that worry the 2021 world champion. The crash the day before, according to him, hasn't changed anything: "Trust was already lacking."
