After three seasons in the antechamber of the premier category, Fermin Aldeguer will join the MotoGP. The Spaniard has been announced by Gresini Racing for next season with a two-year contract. He will take the place of Marc Marquez, who will be leaving for Ducati at the end of the 2024 financial year, and will therefore ride alongside the little brother of the six-time world champion, Alex Marquez.

His excellent 2023 season punctuated by five successes in the intermediate category, including four in a row, left Borgo Panigale no other choice than to sign the one who finished third in the championship.

Made official at the start of the current campaign, Fermin Aldeguer was also expected to be the favorite for the Moto2 title. Fifth in the championship before the Aragon GP, the No. 54 however had a disappointing season.

Despite two victories, in Jerez (Spain) and at Sachsenring (Germany), the Spaniard is struggling to keep up with the leaders Sergio Garcia and Ai Ogura, future Trackhouse Racing MotoGP rider.

While many are starting to find their feet in this hotly contested championship, Aldeguer started the second half of the season with two anonymous weekends. A loss of rhythm that he cannot justify. It remains for the Murcia native to work on his confidence during the last nine rounds of the season in order to start the next chapter of his career in the best possible way.

It was specified that the Spaniard will be riding the Ducati GP24. The same specification as his future teammate. This is the machine currently used by factory Ducati riders, as well as Pramac riders, and which clearly dominates the championship. The Italian brand will therefore have a lot of information about the motorcycle. Which will make learning Aldeguer easier.

“I am extremely happy to join the Gresini family, confides the principal concerned. It’s an incredible opportunity to make my debut in MotoGP. Plus, I will have one of the best bikes on the grid in a fantastic team. I hope to get familiar with the GP24 quickly. We will have to approach it step by step. I'm looking forward to the first test in Valencia. I would like to thank Nadia Padovani and Gigi Dall'Igna for their trust. »
