It's a historic moment for Aprilia and a tough pill to swallow for Ducati. At the Mugello circuit, home of the Italian Grand Prix and the two strongest manufacturers at the start of the season, Noale locked out the top three grid positions, excluding the Borgo Panigale representatives from the front row at this track for the first time since 2011. A historic first for the factory in MotoGP, while Marco Bezzecchi also shattered the track record by completing an attempt in 1:43.921.
Behind him, Raul Fernandez and Jorge Martín missed out on pole position by a few lengths, with the latter securing his return to the front row for the first time since the 2024 Solidarity Grand Prix, 574 days later. The 2024 world champion can also boast another achievement this Saturday morning. During Free Practice 2, he reached 368,6 km/h at the end of the straight, just before the San Donato braking zone, becoming the fastest rider in MotoGP history.

While the final result saw the Aprilias proudly reigning supreme, Marc Márquez came close to breaking Noale's dominance. At the very end of the session, the number 93 was ahead of Bezzecchi's lap time in the first two sectors, but he was held up by Pedro Acosta at the end of his lap, as well as at the first corner during his final push. It seems that the double surgery he underwent before the Catalan Grand Prix has relieved his discomfort, and the 2025 world champion will be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.
Behind the Ducatis and Aprilias, Diogo Moreira secured an excellent 8th place, the best qualifying result of his short MotoGP career. The only Frenchman on track this weekend, fabio quartararo, finished 18th in the qualifying session.
