Francesco Bagnaia made comments following the French Grand Prix that did not please everyone regarding fairness in the premier category. Indeed, the reigning World Champion would consider it preferable for the satellite Teams machines to be “six to seven tenths slower” than factory motorcycles.

Bagnaia's statements strongly provoked Hervé Poncharal, President of IRTA and boss of the Tech3 structure, who did not mince his words in an interview with PaddockGP

“I was very surprised on the part of the reigning World Champion, someone I respect enormously, for whom I have a lot of admiration, and who is always quite calm in his comments, to read such a stupidity, I could even say huge stupidity. Like all pilots, Pecco Bagnaia arrived in MotoGP in an independent team that could be called private or satellite, and he was happy to have a high-performance motorcycle that allowed him to stand out. Six or seven sixths is roughly the deficit he would like to see imposed on them in order to have fun among the rich and powerful., declared the Frenchman.

We cannot blame him as this season we are witnessing an indecisive MotoGP championship where each rider has a chance. Hence this incomprehension of Bagnaia's comments that we would be tempted to share.

“It's great for everyone, it's great for the sport, it's a great emulation and it allows us, the independent teams, to convince our partners, that we can also call the sponsors, to join us because we tell them that we are not only here to fill the grid but that we are also here to perform! We can win races and possibly aim for the title. »

Finally, at the end of a French Grand Prix which broke all records, Hervé Poncharal recalls that it is thanks to this kind of competitiveness that the discipline attracts so many people, both on and off the circuits.

“I think the situation today is fabulous: we have 279 people who came to see a mega show and that's because there is a great show, superb battles with potential winners who are almost as numerous that those who are on the grid, that we have this success. »
