The FIM Stewards Committee MotoGP announced that after the announcement of Marc Márquez's withdrawal from the Argentine Grand Prix due to injury, the double Long Lap inflicted on the Spaniard will be served during the next round of the Championship in which he will participate.
This penalty was imposed on Marc Márquez for recklessness following his violent collision on Sunday with Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team) during the main race. This clash led to the abandonment of both men and, more seriously, their withdrawal from the Argentine round this weekend.
The Aprilia satellite team, RNF, immediately reacted and lobbied for more severe sanctions from the FIM commissioners, judging the penalty of a double Long Lap too light in view of the consequences for its rider. This pressure certainly pushed the legislator to react, but it seems that haste prevailed over reflection.
It is indeed Honda's turn to react by pointing out the potential illegality of the postponement of the sanction. “With regard to the sanction imposed by the FIM on Marc Márquez for the racing incident that occurred during the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Repsol Honda team considers that the modification of the sanction consisting of a change of criterion on the moment when the sanction must be served, and that this modification was issued by the FIM two days after the initial sanction was declared final and definitive, is not in compliance with the current FIM regulations for the MotoGP™ World Championship. For this reason, the Repsol Honda team intends to use all the means of recourse offered by the regulations in force to defend its rights and legitimate interests, which it considers violated following the last resolution adopted, and in particular has duly filed an appeal before the FIM Appeal Stewards. »
