Holding onto the top 10, Jack Miller managed to secure his spot in Saturday's Q2. Thanks to a fast bike, the Australian rider finished mainly behind his Ducati rivals. Second, fabio quartararo also held his own, confirming the good impressions of the Jerez Grand Prix.
For Jack Miller, the recent test sessions at Jerez coupled with the return of the MotoGP on European circuits comes at the right time for Yamaha. “It’s always positive when you go straight into Q2, it’s not something I can say often, so it’s good. I felt good from this morning. Honestly, the test in Jerez came at the right time, he continued. It allowed us to really shake up the bike a bit, to try different things in a different configuration. The tests in Malaysia and Thailand are good, but they are very specific circuits. Once you get to European circuits like Jerez, with more grip, more technical, we had to adjust a lot of things. And as I said, the test in Jerez couldn't have come at a better time.
Effective settings for Miller and Yamaha
"I'm building, accumulating good feedback. And here at Le Mans, it's not always easy to get good feelings, so I'm happy with today's performance., explained the Australian. My time at the end of the session was great, and I was able to do another fast lap afterward despite the yellow flags. I think I did a 1:30.6 on a semi-worn tire, I was very satisfied."
Admitting to having worked extensively on the front of the bike, Jack Miller details his work on the settings. "Fork height, angles, inserts..." these were the main areas of development around the Yamaha.
“The most important thing is to be able to exploit the grip, he insistedComing out of Turn 6, the bike accelerates very well. But in Turn 7, I almost have to stop in the middle and point the bike to get out in a good position, to maximize the recovery and transfer the load to regain grip. That's what I have to do to maintain grip in this type of corner. So we're going around the problem, but we're moving forward, step by step."
