With Cal Crutchlow, the Castrol Honda LCR team will welcome back a familiar face at the Italian Grand Prix.
The 40-year-old Briton knows the Italian team perfectly, having raced for them between 2015 and 2020. Now a Yamaha test rider, Cal Crutchlow has solid experience at the highest level. World Supersport Champion in 2009 after a notable stint in the British Superbike Championship, he then joined WorldSBK before making his debut in... MotoGP in 2011 with Tech3 Yamaha.
Known for his speed and fighting spirit, Crutchlow established himself as one of the leading riders on the grid over the seasons. After a stint with Ducati in 2014, he joined LCR Honda in 2015, the team with which he achieved the greatest successes of his career. He notably secured three MotoGP victories, including the win at Brno in 2016, the first victory in the history of the LCR team in the premier class.
A beautiful story between Crutchlow and LCR
This replacement therefore takes on the appearance of a reunion between two parties that have maintained close ties over the years. “We are all standing with Johann Zarco and wish him above all a speedy recovery,” said Lucio Cecchinello. "We are fortunate to be able to count on our former driver Cal Crutchlow, with whom we shared some great moments."
At 40 years old, Crutchlow will be back on the Honda RC213V for the Mugello weekend. Even though he hasn't competed in a full Grand Prix for several seasons, the Englishman is approaching this return with enthusiasm. "I have so many memories with LCR, the years we spent together were incredible."he said. When I received the call to replace Johann, I felt privileged and honored. We know it will be an intense weekend, but I'm ready to give my all for the team.
For his part, Johann Zarco will now focus on his recovery before considering a return to competition. The entire AUTOhebdo team wishes to express its full support during this difficult time.
