It is a historic day in Moto GP who sees a new name added to his list of achievements in the person of Jorge Martín. The Spaniard became world champion in the premier class this Sunday for the first time in his career by finishing third in the Gran Premio de la Solidaridad in Barcelona this Sunday, behind his rival Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Gresini).
The 26-year-old rider gives Pramac its first title in its history, in what was his last race on a Ducati before joining Aprilia next season, but also the last for the transalpine team that will race Yamahas in 2025. It is the first time in the MotoGP era, which began in 2002, that an independent team has won the supreme title. The last to have achieved this feat was Valentino Rossi in 2001, at the time of the 500 cm³.
« This sounds extraordinary., This title is for my family and friends, all those who support me, said the Martinator after the arrival. I started to cry in the last laps, I couldn't drive properly anymore. Thanks to all my loved ones, this victory is for them. It was a long journey with a lot of pressure. Thanks to the public and all the fans here. I have a thought for all the victims of Valencia. I will continue to improve. I will release the pressure and continue to work. »
