The wait is finally over for Jorge Martin. More than two months after his terrible crash and injuries sustained during pre-season testing in Sepang (Malaysia) last February, the Spaniard is finally set to kick off his 2025 season this weekend. The reigning world champion has been declared fit to compete in the Qatar Grand Prix, after receiving the initial all-clear from doctors. He will now travel to Losail for the fourth round of the championship after missing the first three races of the season.

Jorge Martin, who suffered a left wrist injury in his crash at Sepang, also suffered a bout of bad luck after sustaining another injury after surgery during a training session in Spain, further delaying his return. After this lengthy recovery, the world champion will now be back on the Aprilia RS-GP25 for the first time in two months. However, his definitive participation in the Qatar Grand Prix will be subject to final validation by doctors during a final medical check on the track this Thursday.

Martin " happy to be able to at least try to run in Qatar"

“I really want to get back on the track and I'm happy to at least try to race in Qatar, Jorge Martin rejoicesThe goal will be to gain some confidence with the RS-GP25 and start doing some laps. I don't know about my fitness, it probably won't be 100%. We'll try to do our best and improve gradually. Physically, I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish the race, but if we do, it will be a victory because it will mean I'm starting to recover. We have to take one step at a time to try to get back to our normal level as quickly as possible."

During Martin's absence, Alex Marquez has taken the lead in the championship, and now has 87 points more than the Spaniard, thanks to an impressive run of six consecutive second-place finishes. His brother, Marc, and Francesco Bagnaia, with whom he used to battle last year, have also taken a considerable lead.

Aside from the points difference, Jorge Martin has a significant gap in experience on the Aprilia RS-GP. Having been out of action since the early stages of the year, he only really rode the RS-GP during the pre-season test day in Barcelona last November.
