The traditional start-of-year presentation of new motorcycles that Yamaha took part in this week is above all an opportunity to lift the veil on the decorations of the machines and to put the spotlight on the partners. The mechanical and aerodynamic developments of these new weapons are of course absent from the presentation models and jealously preserved in the design offices until the first official tests.
The end-of-season tests organized in Valencia on November 08, 2022 allowed the teams to test different solutions, mainly aerodynamic, some of which have a strong chance of appearing on the 2023 models.
Here's a look at what we could find on the Yamaha YZR-M1 fabio quartararo in 2023.
On the presentation model, the fins placed on either side of the front fairing were reduced to their simplest expression.
In Valencia, Yamaha tested two much more radical solutions. The first was the addition of 2 aerodynamic appendages on the lower part of the fairing, in camouflage decoration in this photo.
The second version consisted of a more complex two-level fin.
At the rear, the saddle backrest is much more imposing than on the 2022 model. A general trend in the paddock set to become the norm because this element now accommodates increasingly imposing fins on most machines: The fins on the saddle backrest, what are they for?
In Valencia, many solutions were tested, including this impressive set of 4 fins.
