With the calendar growing longer, the time has come for change MotoGP. Several issues were at the center of the debates of the FIM Grand Prix Commission, which was held on April 22 in Portimao. The decisions taken were finally published this Thursday, April 28, in a statement. Among the main changes, we note the reduction in the number of testing days and the use of 100% non-fossil fuel in 2027.

This season, the twenty-one meetings forced the authorities to modify the 2023 testing schedule. After the final ball in Valencia, on November 6, it is the Ricardo Tormo Circuit which will host the testing day official. And not Jérez, as was the case in 2021 with two days on the program.

Also decided, the withdrawal of a post-Grand Prix test day from 2023. As a reminder, on three occasions last season, a test day was organized on the Monday or Tuesday following a Grand Prix, in order to grant additional driving to teams and drivers. In 2023, there will therefore no longer be three but two. The rest of the testing schedule remains unchanged.

A 100% non-fossil fuel by 2027 in MotoGP

Another change, the Commission reaffirmed the obligation to use fuel with a minimum of 40% of non-fossil origin, by 2024. This percentage will even increase to 100% from the 2027 season. which is for the current season, the FIM also announced a change regarding the long-lap penalty. The route must no longer have any paint on the ground, even if it is located in a clearance zone. A measure applied with immediate effect.
