This week, Goiânia is experiencing torrential downpours, and the brand new route intended to bring back the MotoGP Brazil is already facing a test of its drainage system. 48 hours before the start of the Grand Prix, organizers had to activate water pumps due to partial flooding of the track.
Completely resurfaced and modernized to host the return of the Brazilian Grand Prix, the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna in Goiânia – already used by the drivers between 1987 and 1989 – is set to become the showcase for the South American market, which MotoGP wants to conquer.
A slight setback, beyond the promoters' control, struck the venue just before the big event. With the weather proving unpredictable in the region for the past few days, the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna was not spared. A significant portion of the site – including the paddock access tunnel and one of the circuit's straights – was flooded.
Now, how is that for brilliantly working drainage! 🌧🇧🇷

Tanker trucks and other drainage systems were quickly activated to remove the water in record time. However, the rain continued to fall on the site, and there are growing concerns that the weather could jeopardize the weekend.
Just days after the Qatar Grand Prix was postponed due to the geopolitical situation in the region, it would be unwise to cancel another race on the calendar. With the help of local authorities, the Grand Prix organizers are now working hard to get the circuit ready and ensure that all the weekend's sessions, which begin this Friday, March 20th, can go ahead.
