MotoGP soon to return to Brazil

Brazilian Grand Prix returns to MotoGP - Michelin

Le MotoGP will soon make its big return to Brazil. The country that has not hosted a single round of the world championship since the 1992 season will be on the program of the 2026 tour of the discipline. A multi-year agreement has just been signed between the local authorities, namely the government of Goiás and Brasil Motorsport, and Dorna.

The contract provides for the organisation of races on the Ayrton Senna International Circuit, in the state of Goiás, near the capital, until 2030. The site first hosted the two-wheel world championships in the 1987 season. The sport held an annual round there until 1989.

The Interlagos circuit then took over to organize a single edition of the event in 1992. Between 1995 and 2004, races were still organized in the country. This time under the name of Grand Prix of Rio de Janeiro. A last edition that preceded a two-decade interruption. This one will therefore end at the dawn of the 2026 season.

The Dorna announcement specifies that modernization works at the Goiânia site will be necessary to host the MotoGP. A possible postponement of the event, as has been the case in recent years with other circuits, cannot therefore be ruled out.

An opportunity to seize for MotoGP

To avoid this, the discipline assures, Brasil Motorsport, which is already working towards the success of the Grand Prix of Formula 1 in Sao Paulo, will work closely with MotoGP.

“The Brasil Motorsport team is used to working with major sports leagues and organizing major events. With this experience, I am sure that MotoGP will be a great success in Goiânia. We will have one of the most exciting sporting events in the world. As well as attractions, strong brands and enthusiastic fans. A mix that is guaranteed to be a success.” emphasizes Alan Adler, CEO of the company.

With this announcement, MotoGP aims to expand its audience on the South American continent, a part of the world where the Argentine Grand Prix is already held regularly.

"We are looking forward to returning to Brazil, says Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports in the announcement of the company holding the commercial rights to MotoGP. We have a great fan base who we know are delighted with this news. This new deal also offers a fantastic opportunity. We will be able to grow in a key market for the sport and our manufacturers.

Brazil is a global player. We have always believed that it deserved a place in our calendar, He continues. Working with the Government of Goiás and Brasil Motorsport, who have an impressive and proven track record, is an opportunity we are very happy to seize.”
