Yamaha satellite team for 2025 soon to be announced?

A four-way future soon announced at ©Yamaha MotoGP

The rumor has been making waves lately, and Yamaha management has already announced that the factory will have a satellite team in 2025, which would bring the number of YZR-M1s on the grid to four. The argument would even have been used to motivate fabio quartararo to renew its contract with the brand.

However, it seems that things have accelerated, and Alex Rins, teammate of the Frenchman at the Blues, suggested that the formalization of this satellite structure was imminent.

“The transfer market was very interesting during the month of June, and there will be a lot of changes next year. Besides, perhaps in a few hours or a few days, a team on the grid will announce that it will field more official motorcycles in 2025. said the Spaniard all smiles in front of the media in Assen.

So we can expect that the 2021 world champion's team will take advantage of the outcome of the Ducati puzzle to make the news official in the Netherlands, or at least before the end of this first part of the season.

However, it seems that another announcement is in the pipeline from Yamaha. “It will be a great thing for us. We will be able to grow, continues Rins. We will improve faster. I have the opportunity to stay at Yamaha. I've done a good job with them since the start of the season, and I might stay with them next year, let's see how things go. »

Which team will sign with Yamaha in 2025?

As for the possible choices of the Japanese manufacturer, Pramac is in the lead. After twenty years of loyalty to the Italian firm, it seems that Jorge Martin's team has chosen to continue its journey alongside another factory.

The reasons for this premature divorce remain unclear even if the fact that Ducati does not want to offer security to its satellite teams beyond 2026, just before a big change in regulations, remains the most likely hypothesis. Some also mention financial interests.

This nevertheless justifies the hasty signing of Jorge Martin at Aprilia. The latter wanted to find a competitive bike when he knew that he would not be nominated to support Francesco Bagnaia in 2025.

As Alex Rins mentions, in the event that Pramac Racing were to sign with Yamaha, the team would have two factory motorcycles. A deal similar to the one the team has had with Ducati since 2020, although the machine they would inherit is currently not as fast as the Desmosedici GP.
